Speed help (5th Gear) 426

How difficult is it to change out the fifth gear on my WR426? The local shop wants $1000 to do it and that's just not worth it to me. Also does anyone have any photos of what to expect once I get in there and what else I should think of replacing?

The shift fork and third gear should looked at carefully and replaced

It's easy enough to do if you have experience doing motors, probably considered daunting if you've never split a case though...but the 1000 sounds reasonable for the work involved.
