My buddies 98' wr400 has cracked and broken 2 valve needles, (the flat metal piece that sits in front of the slide in the carb.) since he's owned it. any ideas on what would cause this ? at about $100 apiece, and the chances of metal going thru the motor.. he needs to find an answer to this problem. thanx. :)

Does he have a functioning throttle stop?

I do not, and I also have cracked two of those things. I keep putting off replacing mine, and cutting it to the proper length.

Have the slide rollers worn a groove inside the carb body?
