Hmmm, I figured you or Tim would nail this, but have not heard it called that. Where does Fred's run to or from?

Close. BD may have hit it, just unsure of that name. Doable on a quad, but not recommended unless you like a good laugh.

The bottom

I still crack up that you took a poor sap on a quad down that and thru the wash.:thumbsup:
Fred must have been a dreamer (lucky for us!).
I think Rob is thinking of Satans Anus/The Slucebox/Mine Trail.

Dang. You beat me to it. I guessed it before the pic even finished loading.
When are we going to ride up it? Hell Ride?

They call it Fred's because a guy named Fred made it. He thought that since he had a love for Gonzaga bay that he could plow a road through the hills across from El Pedrogroso and exit the wash a few miles to the south of Punta Final. Thus making the trip quicker. Little did he know if he just waited they would build a Highway to Gonzaga...YIKES
Believe it or not this was originally plowed by a tractor and a vehicle could make it, allegedly.
My buddy Jesse, the Baja nomad who is probably badder than any of us fools when it comes to Baja, told me the story. His family Friend is the Vic family whose patriarch is probably one of the exalted Baja moto living legends and has a home next door to another one, Ron Bishop in Punta Final.
You believe? I do

Hell ride has a small shot at this but right now I am planning this little stunt for a night ride on Rip to the Tip 5 in 2010.
I will be there this Mon but I think I am skipping Fred's, been speaking with BajaBound monkey (return my email fool) and Bill Nichol and we will be riding some things I haven't seen and making new ones we have sussed out a bit.

He was not a happy camper. He loved the ride down, but hated the bottom. Had we known at the time what it entailed, we never would have gone that way with him.

Now that could be a fun ride! Go out on Nichols rock trail, stay at Alphonsinas, then go up this. Not sure how much fun it'd be going back up though.

The road where you see the dust has some tricky parts for a TT. We always take it easy on this part of the road.
I've been through on non-race days and it seems like you are on another planet. The uphill always seems easier when you get there, always revving the boys up on it. The entire top was on fire when I got there in the TT in 07

... I've been through there in pitch black and hated on each rock I encountered. During the day, or early AM or dusk... it's just killer.
The rocks don't look like much in pictures;

... How about those rains the day before the race in '07, which dried up all the silt ?! Gotta love it. Never knew it was on fire.... bummer.
I couldn't help myself one day, stopping and snapping picture after picture;
