I think that's bored and stroked though-

I'm also curious what FCR/3x3/Exhaust/cams will do. Any other mods I'm missing for stock displacement?

before you go for big horse power , consider how to make the bike hook up .

you can have it all but if you cant get traction it defeats the purpose IMO .

I dont see it being much higher than 45. Add the E base gasket, some porting and cam timing, even with that i'd still guess with the 398cc's you're limited to about 47ish rear wheel horsepower. And thats probably rather optimistic.

You gotta bore and stroke for big HP.

If not you cant expect to hit 50, on run 61 of Eddie's he's on;y getting 41 with FCR jetting and pipe (Akro).

Guessing with valves, and cams you could get another 2-3, Yosh pipe add 2 more. 45 or 47 would be it.

Eddie credits the crank with 4-5 hp.

its tough to decipher what each part will do b/c if you want to go Big Bore and Stroker you need fcr 41 instead of 39. Then theres all Eddies head work.

More of an issue with an S or K, SM not so much on pavement I would think. I understand what you are getting at though: on Dirt- the best dollar I have spent on my KX has been with the suspension and tires. I guess I'm not a good enough "street" rider to see the difference with my DR-Z SM. At stock settings- the DR-Z SM handles so much better stock than my ZX-6 ever did. But- apples to oranges.

I know you can reach 60hp with bore and stroke from SSW. If i rode on the street only I would love to have it. But I ride offroad 95% of the time and there is no need for 70hp where I ride. Im just curious to what a well build 400 (398) would do thats all. MRD pipe FCRMX Cams etc etc. I was guessing 45 or so and to me that plenty.

depends on what fuel you are willing to run.

low 40's pretty easy.

I installed the yosh ti, so might have added another hp, the FMF is basically an E exhaust. I also put the stock S cdi back on. 3600 miles since Eddie's magic and bike is still running great!

just got back into drz ownership.... allbeit fitted into a ccm 404.... but when i had a E spec drz last with a full fmf system, powerbomb header and Q silencer it made just over 45hp......got a dyno print out somewhere on the web if i can find it

Found it amongst pics of the drz.....

that is the key to your 45hp

you had the 39mm FCR carb and little better cams from the factroy -- so you ware making bamn near 39HP out of the box

take the normal SM with the 36mm carb stock cams and just a rejet and pipe your looking under 35hp

Agreed the E spec will be more powerfull than the S ... pretty well gospel knowledge on here by now, thought the op's question related to capacity and power though regardless of cams and carb set up.....

So all I need to make my S engine an E engine is

1. FCR 39mm
2. E model Cams
3. Base Gasket

And to make the low 40s hp I will need an exhaust. I have stock S model exhuast. I really like the FMF Q4 because it is quiet.

The E also has a different exhaust with a slightly larger head pipe diameter than the S/SM. (IIRC)

You are correct. I will get a Standard MRD probably.
