Well, guys, I thought I was gonna give my exit speech a couple of weeks ago. Parked my DR at the back door of my shop and walked 15 feet away for 13 minutes.....just long enough for 2 meth heads to throw it in the back of a pickup and head out. Thank goodness a couple of kids saw the truck and got a description, but no tag number.
And if that wasn't luck enough, the detective on the case had a DRZ650 and knew all about the 400, and gave a crap if I got it back. The WFPD Tactical Unit started following the truck the very next day, (Wednesday), and by the weekend had made 5 arrests. It seems as if this was a group of druggies stealing for a living. Of course, by the time of the arrest, my bike had already been sold. It took a weekend in jail for the p---k to give up the guy he sold it to. A trip to his house to recover it was futile, but then the jerk drove by his house as the detectives were leaving. The officer recognized my bike even though all plastic was stripped off, so the chase was on. 15 minutes later he dumped my bike and ran.....fat chance with 6 cops on your butt.
The final tally: All plastic was recovered but had been sanded in preparations to be repainted, tail light wiring cut:excuseme: lens broken, radiator recovery tank broken  , tool bag and tools gone, and all fasteners gone, ignition switch screwed, and steering lock snapped.
Moral of the story: dont let your guard down for a second. My concealed permit did me no good. Boy, would I have loved to have walked out a minute sooner.

I can press charges, judge will order retribution, but not likely anything will become of it unless the original thief can be made responsible. The ******* on the bike just got out of the pen a month ago. His probation will be revoked and will be sent back probably with no trial. If all 6 are ordered to pay, maybe one will come through.

I think they should do what they do to thieves in arab countries , cut their hands off for theft . You only need to be caught twice and you are out of a job , and looking for someone to wipe your butt :smirk:

Thanks guy, for all the well wishes. No, I didn't have insurance.....I have always felt if I crashed I would suffer the consequences and be self insured. Never thought about some sh*thead stealing it with the handlebars locked at my back door. Crash wise, not a whole lot you can screw up on a DRZ unless you go real stupid, and hopefully any cager who got in my way would be insured. Getting ready to buy a new KLR650 so I will look into full coverage insurance for both.
