Okay so my phone rang on the way home. Normally I ignore it but today we had issues, so I stop to answer it. So as I pull back into the HOV lane I roll on the throttle. It pulls a nice lazy wheelie (I'm grinning away, note lazy and roll on). So I shift up and bobble the front no biggie. I shift again and think what is the putz in front of me doing? I'm coming up on him fast now, how slow is he going? So I back out of it. :banghead:

Well I look down and I'm doing 75!

Apparently I left the line in 3rd gear, which is why the wheelie was so lazy. And it only bobbled after the shift. :moon:

Oh ya Eddie built 470 with 15/38 gearing on SM wheels!

Eddie, thank you! :worthy: :worthy:

how does that gearing compare to stock gears? i have an "08 SM with k&n air filter, jet kit, 3x3 mod. looking to change my gearing for better top end. (it tops out at around 101 currently) but dont want to lose all of low end power.

thinking about exhaust for next spring, but for a last mod before the cold season, was thinking gearing might be a good one.

any advise would be great.

your bike will go slower with taller gearing.

plane dr's motor makes 20-25hp more than yours does.thats why he can pull that gearing.

I live North of Dallas Frisco/Plano.

This is tall gearing. When I had the FCR stage 2 hotcams and Muzzy it was barely tolerable. I could run at or up to about 80. With a tailwind it might make 99 mph. It had no oomph but it was relaxed at stupid interstate speeds. It dyno'd at 40 hp. So not bad, but much better than stock.

Now like Eddie says prolly around 53 to 55hp.

I just posted due to the giggle factor and to thank Eddie yet again.....

Hey Rich how you doin..... haven't heard from you for awhile. I got the Z to where it was fun, and where I wanted it, and went wild on the DRZ. I'm happy as can be now. I have a great combo of bikes. I haven't hit RF much lately it's not as interesting as it was. That was a very nice lookin ride. I'm not going that wild on the Z it's my "work" bike. The yoshi's rule though, what beautiful music....

I was getting bored with the DRZ and was going to buy something else. So value wise the refurb was a pretty good deal. I literally rebuilt all of it. Given what a Priller or a Kaboom costs, plus the hassle, and what an 01 DRZ is worth, it's not so bad.

It is nice (read too much freakin fun). But it is a DRZ, it doesn't have the edge some do. Same for the Z though. All things are a compromise.

Plane Dr,

doin great...

Ever since you first posted your DRZ on Riderforums with the SM set up I wanted to do that too.

Sold the Z1K awhile back but the DRZ remains. I finally got around to doing the SM set up. See my thread "Project 01".

I can't imagine how powerful the 470 set up must really be. Sounds really good. I rode my buddies Husky TE 510 and that thing is lighter than our DRZ's and very poweful too. I thought that bike was very torqy and a wheelie monster too!

Take Care...
Rich
