Background: I recently bought a 2009 Drz400sm. So far I have 420 miles on the bike. I did a service at 200 miles and put in 10w 40 full-synthetic Amsoil. After the full 1000mile break in I want to do a full exhaust change, 3x3 mod and Dynojet Stage 2 Jet Kit.

I have searched and read everything I could find on the forum. I have read all of Burned’s stickies about pm’s and calling the shop. So my first post is going to consist of one of the heavily covered topics on ThumperTalk.

I am asking for your opinions on what I have learned so far.

I will be buying:

Full Yoshimura exhaust set up (aluminum/stainless)
DynoJet Part #3110.001
The extended fuel mixture screw by Kientech
And the 25 pilot jet

Is there anything else that I need and have yet to read about? Is the Kientech T-handle fuel mixture screw better then the regular extended Kientech screw? Also, per Bubonicon’s “The Master 3x3 Post”, he says you can buy the 25 pilot jet at TumperTalk. I can’t seem to find the part, can anybody recommend a different site to purchase the 25 pilot jet?

One last thing, main jet size and turns out on the fuel screw recommendations:

I live in Tucson, az. Elevation 2584ft and low average humidity. Still 155 and 2.5 turns out?

Thanks.

i would by the JD kit. James uses stock jets and dynojet uses a different numbering system. i have an RS 2 Yosh pipe and i like it fine, but if it had been available when i bought mine, i would have the MRD/SSW pipe. it's about the same money as the RS 2, with the performance gains of the Yosh Ti pipe. Dave also repairs any damaged pipes if you crash it out, and i think he does it for free. Jump in and correct me if i'm wrong. if i can find someone to buy my RS2, i'm gonna get one for myself. Good Luck!

+1 I'm in the same boat. Yosh is nice, and I got mine before the MRD was available, but if I was doing it now, I'd go with the MRD.

And go with the JD.

you can't beat James quality and personal service. if you have a problem, you can email him or call him and he'll help you figure it out. dynojet isn't even in the same category imho.

I just re-jetted my 09' SM with the JD Kit. I have no prior jetting experience and it was cake with the JD instructions. Just be sure to use the needle and jet settings that are discussed by the longtime TT members on this forum. These guys have done a lot of testing and know what they're talking about!
