Hello DRZers,
I'm looking to replace the vacuum petcock on a metal-tanked DRZ400sm with a manual one. By searching and reading here, I know several of you have replaced your petcock with the one from the WR400/450 and it is a direct bolt-up for the DRZ dirt bike model.

Surely some of you have worked on both, and could tell me how exactly the petcock is attached (?) Is the hole pattern the same for the metal and plastic tanks? Is there a backup plate that goes in the tank, or are there nuts embedded in the plastic? Hopefully the WR400 petcock will just bolt up to the metal tank as well, but I don't know.

Am afraid not the wr petcock doesn't bolt on the metal tanks , even with the oem petcock spacer the wr petcock switch will hit the tank .
Wr petcock works only on plastic tanks which they don't have this flash like the metal one has on the side .

So if I fabricated a spacer thick enough for the switch to clear the tank seam (and lengthened the tubes, and got longer bolts) would that work? I don't mind doing a little machine work, but if everything's different, I might as well try to adapt any petcock. My main concern is where and how the bolts get their bite into the plastic tank. If the hole spacing is the same, I may just be able to get longer bolts & spacer and make it work.
