The kickstart lever on my 85 xr600 is very sloppy. It's only sloppy when in the up position and doesn't seem bad in the kick position. Is there any way to rebuild the swivel on it, or do I have to look for another used one on ebay and hope that it's tight like the seller says? Thanks for any input.

It's something you would have to do custom. The steel of the bottom part that attaches to the engine slowly wears away at the Aluminum lever resulting in the slop that you have now. I'm sure you could machine the lever and press in a bronze bushing or something.

Anybody know if the kickstarters from later model XR600's are the same as the 85 that I have. Looks like you can order the whole kickstarter assembly from Honda or maybe just the lower steel mounting part.

I know that the newer 98 XR600 steel knuckle has the same spline count as my 88 XR600 becuase I bought a new knuckle to transfer my kickstart arm to but the problem came in with the bolt that clamps the knuckle splines to the kickstart shaft wasn't drilled in the same location as my 88 so it made the my old kickstart arm catch the footpeg when I tried kicking the bike over. I ground my bolt down a bit so the threads were gone near the shaft when tight which allowed me to pull the knuckle a little in or out until I got it to swing freely without hitting the footpeg.
In the end I broke that old kickstart arm even though the knuckle is still good and bought aother complete assembly on ebay off an 88. The ebay kickstart arm is very wobbly but it at least works. I don't need that kickstart knuckle (#2 on the parts fiche called "joint, kick arm" for a 98 XR600R brake pedal assembly) and would sell you mine (used twice before the arm broke) if interested PM me.
