I just bought from a dealer a 2007 XR650L 1,200 miles, no way to contact original owner. I can see the adjustment knob on the carb has had the limiter tab ground off but is there any other way to tell if it has had the mod other then disassembling the carb and looking for holes drilled into the plates? It still has all the smog stuff on it, I would assume anyone doing the "Dave Mod" would have removed that crap unless he put it back on to trade in? I've not rode a stock or modded one before so I really cannot tell from performance. Thanks guys!
Dave

has your air box been modified? The only for sure way to tell is pull the carb and check jetting.

No, the air box looks OEM, is there any other reason someone would have ground off the adjustment limit tab?

Is the snorkel still in the airbox?
Foam or paper filter?

If they put in jets the bowl screws may be scratched enough to tell.

Also, see if the fuel hose clamps are in a slightly different position.

i would just take carb off, pull it and verify jetting and mods, its only assuming unless you DO take it off and apart.

WELCOME TO TT!!! and the BRP clan!!!

+1 about pulling out the carb and looking. There should be some small numbers stamped into the visible portion of the jets. They are usually legible.

If it's got the stock paper air filter and stock exhaust, you can open it up by replacing them and then rejetting. It's just about money really. The modification part is easy.
