I have a 96 xr650l fmf q muff, uni filter, snorkal removed, smog removed, 160 main, stock pilot, needle raised, slide drilled. starts fine , runs fine but if you crack the throttle quick it will miss, roll it on and it pulls strong, hold it at near full trottle and it misses.
I checked the plug, tank screen and bowl, checked carb for dirt etc, adj the valves, checked coil resistance. Any ideas??

Sounds like it's too rich if it's bogging at WOT. Do a plug check & try going to a smaller main jet, either a 158 or 155.

crackin the throttle fast is a byproduct of the CV carb, rolling on lets the vacume work, thats not a real issue, throttle control is needed there and not rip it open.

The miss while holding at WOT is a main jet issue, what elevation you live at or what city????

What does the plug look like? Can you be sure the carb is clean?

The jetting is kind of lopsided; a bit large on the main and small on the pilot.

I think you're rich too. I have almost the exact same set up and had the same problem. Try running with your side cover off and see if it gets better or worse. If it gets better, vent your sidecover and make sure your UNI is not over oiled:ride:

Its not to rich. It was acting like ignition cut out or running out of fuel. I think I found the problem... gas tank cap vent. the one way valve was not working correctly. possibly was installed backwards. Rode it late last night, need to try it again today.

with stock pilot you may look into upping that, stock would be ok if your high elevation only.
