Does the 650L have the same motor as a 1988 NX650 (from a counterbalance standpoint)? I ask this question because I once owned a NX650 and I remember it being quite a vibrator.

I thought possibly when the XR650L was introduced maybe the motor was changed a bit?

TIA.

Pretty much the same engine. Both use a gear driven balancer to reduce the vibrations.

piggy's gonna vibrate your fillings out baby!

she's a paint shaker. I had a husky610 which claimed to have NO counterbalancer; I honestly can't tell the difference between it and the xr650L which claims to have one. Wonder what piggy would be like without one?

Lots of vibrations. Tires make a big difference in addition to the engine. The more dirt oriented the tire, the more vibration you will get from the tires. Never really noticed until I started coasting down some big hills on the street and noticed quite a bit of vibration even with the engine off.

I consider the L to be very smooth running- what the heck are you guys doing to the poor beast?

that Husky610 I had. If I started it up and parked it in the garage and walked over to the workbench, by the time I turned around, it would have walked about 1 foot across the floor doing the shimmey shake on its kickstand AND I could actually feel the floor vibrating across the garage.

Ok, I'll give ya the XRL aint' *that* bad ... but it's pretty bad compared to the other big singles, ride a bmw f650 once and you'll see what I mean.

Indeed my L feels wonderful compared with what I've run in the past.

I've found that tires have a lot to do with road vibrations on both the NX and XRL.

I see you also have a WR; How does the WR compare to the NX with respect to vibs?

Thanks,

J

The WR has many more vibration issues than the NX or XRL. My WR is plated and I do extensive street/highway riding to access trails. Vibes change at different speeds, RPMs, tire pressures, and pavement conditions. When you throw something else into the equation, like an unbalanced tire, it feels like the bike is going to rattle apart on you. It takes a lot of getting-used-to to ride a WR on the street. I've heard that supermoto tires on the bike will help a lot.

I think the L runs quite smoothly---agree with clc3251---try different tires/tyres whichever works?.Fun,fun,fun.
