Hi All:

I reformed my stock seat this spring and Motorcycle Consumer News published an article on it. It turns out that the editor has a DR650 and is interested in doing something similar to his bike.

I was going to just put it on my website and send you all a link, but they paid me for it, so now you have to buy a copy. Sorry.

This month's digital edition is available in the "back issues" section if you want to spend $7.00 on it.

Anyway, the cut-out pictures show why the L seat is very comfortable in the "one spot". We rode the stock setup over 5K miles on a road trip last summer, so I know it works better than any other DP I have tried (including BMW's GS12).

Don't take away foam on this seat to lower the tall bike unless you really like pain. Do something else first, like a lower link or smaller rims. I took advantage of other good posts here to get the forks a lot lower.

If I can do this upgrade, anybody who can fix their own bike can do it too. Give it a try and good luck.

Hey Frog13:

This frame is really huge. I bought mine from a 5'10" guy tired of hoisting onto it. It was hard to get the seat height down to 34", which is still plenty tall, but manageable.

I used a Kouba lower link in the rear, and then put on my XR400 front forks, 17" rims and then cut the kickstand to match. You could probably just slide your stock ones up. They should go at least 1.25"

The stock foam is pretty soft and you sink down more than you think. It won't take much foam loss to ruin it. You might want to consider the DR650 if you really need the leg space as it was made with a shorter frame to begin with.
