So here's my problem - The bike has run great for 12k miles but I go out into the garage to fire her up and nothing but whir whir whir from the starter:confused:

It has spark. I put a plug into the cap to check it and it looked good, but still no results so I changed the plug out. Still no good.

I have an Eddy carb that has run great for the last two years with periods of sitting months at a time, but it has only been a week since I went on two 500 mile rides. Things should be functional there and the innards were clean when I had it apart to re-jet for the cam. I do have a clear fuel line and noticed an air gap in fuel where the line droops just a bit below the carburetor. This tells me there is no draw?

It is an Acerbis 6g tank and I put a couple of gallons in the tank thinking maybe it wasn't getting enough pressure on the line. Both petcocks are open.

I changed the cam to a Hot Cam but it has ran great for the last 1000 miles with no problems.

Perhaps I should check my cam chain on the off chance it broke when I killed the motor? (I'm stretching here.)

What is odd is that I'm not even getting a flooded smell or a pop from cranking too much.

Any thoughts from the TT brain trust?

hmm,

Well the first thing I would suggest is process of elimination.

1. spark
2. fuel
3. air & compression

With those 3 you should be right to go. I'd say start with them and let us know what you come up with.

+1 on the main three would also like to add timing of the spark and or the cam by taking the covers of the valves and placing the flywheel on the T mark rockers should be loose

What color is the spark? I have found if the battery is low it will not be blue in color and makes it difficult to start if at all.

Is the plug wet? If not gas might not be flowing into the carb could be a stuck needle.

Good point on the plug. When I pulled I was marveling at it's perfect color but it was dry as a bone. Time to pull the carb apart and pull a valve cover just to make sure everthing connected.

One thing you can try is a little fuel or starting fluid and see if it fires at all. If it does then the carb is suspect.

One lead I can give you if it's the carb is to check the needle and seat on the fuel inlet - part #34 on this schematic that Creeky posted a while back - http://www.edelbrock...b_internals.pdf
One great thing about Eddies is that they are so simple, even a caveman can rebuild one, so there isn't much that can go wrong. But this needle can get gummed up and get stuck resulting in fuel cutoff.
If you haven't pulled one apart, always do it over a towel, there is one tiny checkball that falls out, if it rolls off the workbench, it's gone.
Also, be careful with carb cleaning chemicals, certain kinds will eat away the rubber grommets on the A/C pump as well as the composite float.
Hope this helps.

That's good info to know:thumbsup: I won't get to things until next week but I'll let you know how it plays out.:ride:

^^^This was the problem^^^. Thanks, Agent2 for the info and tip:thumbsup:

It took awhile to get things torn apart but it was that little bugger indeed.
