Would i be able to handle a yz450f?

Hello! Well i need some help on choosing a new bike. So im decidng between a yz250f, and a yz450f, i already ride a ttr125,which im selling, but would i be able to handle the 450. I rode my friends 250 2 stroke, and its jetted, maybe bored, and has a performance pipe and all that good stuff, and its puching about 300cc. I got it to 4th gear no problems with the throttle maxed out. It just felt really snappy. Would i be better on a 250f, or a 450f? Also i ride in woods, jump, and race my friends around my track, and i pretty much do everything. What do you think the best bike for me would be? Also what bike would you get?

i would get the 450. if your not comfrotable with the power you will get used to it after a few rides. a 450 4 stroke has about the same power as a 250 2 stroke i think. the 4 stroke just has a smoother power delivery and keeps giving you more power while a two stroke would top out before the 4 stroke and not have as smooth a power delivery.

Thats a tough question for us to answer.

And it depends on a whole lot of factors.

I would suggest you test drive a 450 before you buy one,its a pretty big step up from a ttr125.

I used to race 250 2 strokes ,but the 250 F is plenty of bike for what I do.

All the guys I ride with have 250 2 strokes and my 250 F seems to keep up just fine.

idk if i were u id go with the 250 cuz i went from a crf230f to a yz450 and bout crapped my self. its a huge step up. i would got a 250 but the 450 was 400 bucks less and a year newer!

A friend of mine gave his WR450 to his son that was coming off the the TTR. the son was/is a pretty good rider and knew throttle control and has grown into the bike really well.

With that said I wouldn't recommend it, especially if you are serious about getting fast. Get 250 and learn to ride it to its full potential, then when you want more power, move to the 450. That's just my .02

anyone can ride a fast bike on a straight away.. and im guessing upon your riding level u gas it wen your out of a corner not at the apex or right b4. and if u grab a hand full right out of a corner on a 450 youll loop out exspecially if u been ridin a lil toat goat ttr125. and i can honestly say being an experienced racer that the question isnt CAN YOU HANDLE THE POWER OF A 450?? BUT CAN U HARNESS THAT POWER AND USE IT IN ALL THE RIGHT PLACES.

but if u end up gettin the 450 just reconize the power it duz have and b careful!!!

get the 250. these tyopes of questions i hate(can i handle the power of a 450) well yah. in a gravel pit/field. but if you wanna get serious about your riding. take the time to learn how to ride a full size mans bike. not a little toat goat like someone else said. if you wanna be a GOOD rider,get the 250. an then in a few years get a 450. my guess is your what 13,14,15? can you handle the weight of the 450?! my dads got one. im 14.rode it. had a blast.but dont want one. wayyyyy to much weight.

I rode and raced a 250F against 450f's as well as 530F's for that matter (no size limit, just age) in the vet class and would get beaten off the line but would always catch them and pass them because the bike was easier to handle. My lap times are probably still faster on the 250! There are only two reasons that I moved to the 450 (after a long time on the 250 F and then a 250-2)

1) I didn't like getting roosted on the starts

2) I'm 180 lbs without gear and the added power is great for long hills (trails) and sand riding.

You don't have time on a real 4 stroke MX bike yet (based on your current ride) to have developed the riding skills to handle a 450. Believe me, you will be faster on the 250F.

If you think a 250F isn't very fast, just watch any of the outdoor pro races and look at the lap times vs the 450's...Not much difference.

what do you think? Seriously, of course the 450 would be MUCH worse than that. If the 250f lifted the front end in 4th gear, that probably means you're barely over 100lbs in weight. Jumping from the ttr125 to the 450 is just too big of a jump, even the 250f would be quite a handful for you for quite a while.

buy the one you like the most. MX 250f's are pretty even, it's up to each person's taste pretty much. Just don't get a crf250r or crf250x, unless you want to risk having valve issues. Not trying to hate on hondas, but it's a proven fact that they have a high rate of valve issues. If you're buying a used 250f, you should probably focus more on the price and overall condition of the bike than on brand. Make sure the bike has been maintained properly.

Unless you're made of money or are racing for a contingency, get a used 250F (my preference is Yamaha but any of them except for Honda will work fine.) grow into it. If you like it, save up for a new one. If you need more power, get the 450 later...After getting used to the 250.

The CR250F is famous for being right on the edge of blowing up. I have ruined one, I have two friends that have ruined 3. That's a total of 4 owned and 4 blown up. I have ridden my Yamahas harder and NEVER had a mechanical breakdown on any of them!

Like the man said, you're on the Yamaha forum, so that's the flag we're going to wave. Myself, I've always had good luck with Yamaha and KTM, so that's the route I would go. There are good dealers near me for both brands, and dealer support is one of the most important things in selecting a bike. As far as 450s go, they are a HUGE step over a TTR. Getting a 250 first would pay off in the long run as far as honing your skills.
