Hi, I'm new to this site and also a new 426 owner. I've been a 2-stroker all my riding life so this site looks like a great place for me to learn. I want to install a weight set on my bike but a friend of mine had a 99 YZ400 and told me that the Terry Cable set had left grooves in his sidecase and I wondered if anybody else has had this problem and if so could they recommend a different brand.

Welcome Jim,

I surprised to hear anybody unhappy with anything from Terrycable. They are regarded as one of the "best". Did your friend call them?

Off-hand I don't know of another vendor of the weights, but I'm sure there are others. I'll keep my eyes open for you. You might try White Brothers.

Just a thought, but you may want to hold off a bit on the weight. I though it was the first thing I would do to mine, but I've found over time the bike doesn't need it ( in my riding )

Just something to think about :)

Here is the deal. i have installed the Terry cable flywheel wieght on my 99 yz400 and it goes on the inside of the flywheel. It is very close to fitting on the outside...however if you do get it on the outside it will leave grooves in your side case. The other possability is that he did not grind off the end of the bolts on the outside of the flywheel wieght when he installed it. They could potentially be long enough to scrap on the side case as well. I have installed the 10 oz wieght and love it for trail riding. I have a 6 and 8oz wieght left over from the kit and can get the extra mounting hardware very easily. Let me know if you are interested in these and we can work something out. e-mail me at jlm2084@aol.com
