Prices for a DRZ are all over the board. what's a good price to pay for a new one and where from? Shipping one is counterproductive since it adds about 10%.
What to pay now?

check out the dealerships, since you're in New York (not sure which part) you might be able to talk them down a little bit in price if they're trying to push bikes out and make room on the showroom floor for sleds

Area and market dependant.
It's going to cost you on avarage, what ever people in your area are willing to pay.
If you lookking for a REAL Out the Door price, all fees, tax, ect. Go to http://www.otdcyclesports.com/
Keeping it in mind it is a CA based company with one store in CO. So prices will be different. BUT they will be a real OTD price to help you get a base. If your not willing to travle to another state,,, really the only thing that matters is,, how much does one cost at the dealers your willing to shop at?

Bought a new 09 DRZ400S for $5300 this summer, not including NYS sales tax to register!!
NY dealers wanted too much,,,found a dealer in Ohio (Xtreme Suzuki)with two...took the white over the black, then I tried to change but it was too late (paperwork started),,,now I'm glad I picked the white
If you get one out of NY state don't get out of state temp tags, you will end up paying at least an extra $50 for title re-registering in NY!!

As others have already stated, it is dependent on your market, but I paid $5100 OTD for a new '09 S last month here is WI.

An "s' model, into S+M.
I've seen low ball $$ on cycle trader, the best real quote was outta state, 4395. + whatever reg fees/tax you'd pay-none for me as I'm reg in boring flat FL.
There's a guy in NY showing 4500. BUT then add 496 freight to dealer and 500 prep(I'm in the wrong business!) and voila, 5400.+taxes etc.
Shipping kills the outta state deal so I'm gonna wave their ad and email to me in their noses and see what gives. My nearby shop has only one S, white 09 BUT he just got an 03 KLX with 300 smiles on it + an fmf slip on(orig header looks like). Think I'll bring 2500 cash to flash for the klx 1st...

read the faq and see all the mods that need to be done. then check craigslist and get a bike that has the mods done and been a garage queen for 2-3 thousand less without the jerking around the dealership will blow up your ass.
Be good to yourself, avoid the dealer and let the fun times roll.
