It's Here...the 2010 YZ450F

hey a 1st place win...awesome

Ok my first complaint,

you know the only thing that bugs me is how Yami designed the outside (leg area) of the past airbox on the new 2010. Area just rearward of the shock reservoir. Why did they leave that big ole hole? Seems to me they could have covered it more and still had a handhold for lifting it up that would make cleaning easier and mud less prone to collecting in there....go figure :bonk:

Mostly because when there's less plastic on the sides, the bike doesn't show wear as much. It's true though that mud tends to get stuck in there.

First thought that comes to mind is that the more enclosed the pipe is, the more heat that would be trapped.

MAX!!!

The thing that will suck is that aftermarket exhaust system will be expensive due to the tornado :bonk:

why would anyone need an aftermarket pipe anyway. You don’t think the same engineers who designed this bike put a crappy pipe on it? when you can go so fast that you beat JS then maybe you need a pipe.

When will people realize the biggest aftermarket joke these days is an exhaust that cost up to $1k and you will not go any faster. Spend the money on suspension set up for "you", put on fresh tires, take a class. Anything but throwing money down the drain for an exhaust. I would think the same engineering that built this bike is the same that built the exhaust. Why would they leave HP on the table unless it was unusable? It really is not needed these days on a 450. I know, i was the dumb ass who bought three different pipes for my 09 honda just to go back to stock and lose $$$$. I put fresh tires on on fresh suspension and saw a real difference.

possible but it just looks unfinished to me.....a little cover up could keep the mud and grime out.

I am not worried about heat as heatwould escape through the hand holes and the top under the seat/sides.

Well, they did in '08-'09 didn't they?

The '05-'06 RMZ450 was another one with a bad exhaust. It happens.

Look, I agree with you that correctly tuned suspension will add more to the actual rideability and your overall speed. There isn't any question of that. But some companies have been able to improve on every exhaust system Yamaha has come up with since the YZF came out. If not, why isn't Yamaha running them on their race bikes?

Dubach Racing extended the torque curve of the '06 and '07 models without changing the high end at all. The '08 pipe was one of the sorriest pieces of junk to come from someone calling himself an engineer in a very long time, and while I expect the '10 pipe to be a much better system more along the lines of the '06, I also have no doubt that the DRD exhaust will be an improvement.

Some expensive aftermarket stuff is just way overpriced, and nothing more than expensive bling, but some of it has a distinct benefit. Yes, you get more real bang for the buck form suspension work except on an '08-9, but broad brushing all aftermarket exhausts as a waste of money is just wrong.

Having said all of that, you really should plan to ride the bike as is and evaluate what it needs to serve your purposes before spending on stuff of any kind.

your right, the last couple years have been plugged up on the yz450, but that was a sound issue i think? Anyway, coming off a honda i wasted time and money on a pipe and just think in most cases its a waste

I will agree that there are a lot of aftermarket exhausts out there for every brand that don't provide much for the money you spend. Even in the example of my own bike, an '06, going to the DRD system added no more than .25 HP at peak according to dyno tests. But it did extend the over rev slightly, and lifted the lower end of the torque considerably, widening the usable power quite a bit.

If I had expected the bike to be faster on top, I would have been disappointed, but I wasn't, since I was looking for an improvement in low and mid range. I also got a USFS sparky, and a lowering of the bike's CG (the silencer is shorter and lighter, while the header is heavier.

Here's my take on evaluating an exhaust system:

I think what hes trying to say is that even though they may add power most people arent using all the power they have anyway. Id be willing to bet that any one on here could ride James Stewarts bike and him ride a 2008 stock YZ450F and hed still smoke them.

Like I said a few post back. My dealer is allocated just one YZ450f and he is holding it for me. I asked if it was going to be the blue one or white one and he said he didnt know.

I dont really care but would like to have a blue one since that is the only color I have owened in a yami but I kinda like the Idea of a suprise.

since they skimped on the plastic for 2010 model, by the time you get graphis on it (especially the white one) most of the graphics will cover up the plastic except for the front fender and like wise on the blue one.

With that being said I'm kinda leaning toward the white one now cause at least with the white one you will get black rims which is kinda neat and no more plastic that is on it you could probally just get some blue plastics and put on the white one which would be cheaper to do that instead of buying black rims for the blue one.
