Can anyone tell me,

does regulator/rectifier from WR 2008 fit on WR 2004?

I know these are two different part numbers:

2004: 5TJ-81960-02-00-REGULATORS 5TJ-81960-01-00 $ 82.59
2008: 5um-81960-E0-00-REGULATOR $ 83.18

I have asked for my local Yamaha dealer, but it is a small dealer and they are not sure. The rectifers do look similar, but are not exactly the same, the connectors do look the same (but have only seen it on ebay foto - so i can't know for sure or try it out).

Thank you.

b.t.w. the battery is not charging, the inignition & litghts work, i get 14.8V AC going to rectifier and 6.5V DC comming out of the rectifier, so i guess it is only rectifing half the voltage

Electrically they will both work but the 08 will have a much shorter electrical harness and probably won't reach the stock '04 location without splicing on some more wire.

Thanks,
shorter wires are no problem, I know '08 rectifier is positoned closer under the tank.
I was unsure because it is a diferent part, and I know the '04 gives AC for th llights and DC for inigniton and battery.
And maybe the power requirements are not the same, the '08 seems smaller and has smaler cooling fins.

Well the headlight is 55 watts on the 04 and 35 on the 08 but I think it will work jsut fine. The stators are the same as well as all the wiring. Not sure if the mounting tab spacing is the same but I suspect they are.

First of all you cannot go by part#'s. Yamaha routinely uses different part #'s for the same part but different model years so that doesn't really tell you anything. The stators for the 04 and the 08 have the exact same output spec: 120 watts @14V and the coils have the same resistance spec so electrically they are identical. If this is such a big concern why not just buy the part for your model year?

Understood. For that price it's probably worth a little splicin'.
