Well Im moving over to the Husky and pick up my bike tomorrow.

Any recomendations on setting the bike up:
> Suspension
> Carb/Jetting
> Aftermarket parts suppliers? Currently Im seeking a larger fuelk tank and steering dampner.

I weight around 210lbs at 6'2.

Type of riding will mainly be medium to fast open heavey dunes where torque is manditory.

For me its a gamble as I dont know the background of this bike but I feel its
a gamble worth taking for the price I got this baby
;)

Well congrats first! My wife got me one as a surprise Fathers day gift and I love it. You will be very happy with the LOOOOONG smooth power delivery. It has awsome torque. As far as suspension, set the rear sag, loosen up the front to almost full soft, and start riding. The front will loosen up after a few hrs and you can then dial it back up to suite you. I haven't had to do any re-jetting and the bike runs perfect at 100-500 ft. The only thing I have added to the bike was a kickstand. Go to "Cafe Husky" website they have some suppliers lised and you can get the parts you want. You are gonna love the bike the power is unreal. All my friends that have ridden the bike say the same thing " man this thing has great tq, it just keeps pulling and pulling!". The brakes, trans, stearing, handling, ease of starting, seating position, and of course the looks make this bike my all time favorite 4-stroke. ENJOY!

Thats some great reading there on the Dirt Bike Magazine site Ruffus, Im enjoying every minute :)
Ive been hunting and managed to locate an IMS tank and steering stabilizer. Tanks are ugly, dont know why they couldnt simply design them the same as everyone else and they might even manage to squeeze in another gallon, no major problem tho :) Steering stabilizer is made by Motosportz based in Vancouver. Never heard of them before as I have used Scott and GPR in the past. It appears the quality of the parts is good and not cheap n nasty which is refreshing.

Cheers

Out of curiosity I wonder if thee 610 tank would fit the 510?

I really doubt it.

Yeah was a wild guess, obviously I dont know these bikes well enough yet to understand the exact differences. Just like honda at first glance many of the CRF's look similar but are miles apart I guess the same goes here.

Are there any major changes between the 08 and 09 TXC 510? I have notice plenty of parts available for the 08 model and am unsure if they will fit, such as the stabilizer?

:) ok ok you win.

Took it for its first ride today. Temps were in the mid 30o C and once warmed it didnt like the throttle being let fully off and then given a bit. There was a dead spot from idle and it had a tendency to stall easy.

Overall I wasnt overlly impressed on my first ride. Yes the suspension soaked up anthing you could throw at it. Its harder to get the front end in the air. 1st,2nd,3rd gears are very close and 6th gear was reached to early.

First thing I will do is try a 15 front sproket with the factory 47 rear as I never really used 1st as it was too low. This will obviously give it more legs up top.

The fuel I used was 95 octane, should I use 98 instead?
Will this improve the flat spot or cause any wear issues with the valves/piston?

Cheers

Is this just a run in issue that will disappear?

These bikes come really tight. Give it about 500 miles, everything loosens up nice, I had to have my idle set up close to 2000 rpm when it was new, after about 500 miles I turned it down to the recommended 1700 & it was great, after about 1000 miles I turned it down to 1500 & it was great until I tried tight slow trails, but then again I'm geared much taller & running a huge Terraflex tire thats like an overdrive by itself because it's quite tall.

Have you checked the jetting?

Yes turn your idle up. My bike has stock jetting and no flat spots so are you running the stock jetting? Give it some time to loosen up but I have no problem with stock gears getting the front up. In fact I have a problem keeping the front end down on a MX track.

Ok this is good to know, I will just be patient and give it time to wear in ;)
On the jetting side of things, I recieved 3 extra jets with the bike, tho as I havent even had it for 24hrs I dont want to get the tools out just yet :) Prefer to let the shop do this with the first service. I put close to 4hrs on it yesterday so first service will come around quick.
John, do you have the TXC or the MX version (TX I think?) was thinking of going to the track after the first service :)

Think I will go and get some heat shield tape for the exhaust today to save my leg :)

Any opinions of fuel octane level?

I have the same bike as you the 09 TXC 510. When I first started to ride mine it would go and when I slowed to turn it would shudder and cut off. This went on for a few minutes until I pulled over a set the idle up. Then it acted like a different bike. I will admit at first I was thinking what did my wife get me this thing won't even stay running. Now after about 20 hrs of riding or so the bike is my all time favorite 4-stroke. On the fuel I run 93 octane. Oh BTW the MX Husky in 4-stroke is the TC. You are right about the exhaust getting hot. I think I will end up with the CF shield. Just set your idle up and you will feel like your bike was tuned up. On the track thing this bike is a blast, awsome power, turning, and jumping. I am no pro just an average joe but I had no problem leaving my friend on his 06 KX 450 on a big 2.5 mile MX track; lots of fun.

do a search here on octane, there's different ratings for the same octane in different country's, not sure what octane rating method you have there. I always use the highest octane available, which here is 91-93. Your 98 could be the same??

I bought an 09 TE510 a few weeks ago to replace my 07 TE610. The more I ride the bike the more I like it - although work commitments have gotten in the way of riding. I am a similar size to you, at 6'3" and 210lbs. The bike's ergos suit me pretty well, but I did need bar raisers.

My dealer in Queanbeyan, NSW is very helpful and has a great (husky riding) mechanic. They recommended that I use high octane fuel. I usually use Caltex Vortex 98 and have experienced nothing but smooth and amazing power and torque. The engine is currently idling at around 1800 but it only has done 200km.

I picked up a B&B aluminium guard for the exhaust and it works well. I also have their bash plate and radiator guards. They make quality gear that fits well and looks good. I also changed to a 14 tooth front sprocket which has improved the length of the close range 510 gearing. The only issue I have with the bike is the small tank. I don't want an IMS tank so I live in hope that Husqvarna will rectify that problem. For the time being, I will have to carry fuel on longer rides.

The only thing I need to do now is take your advice and get out and ride.

How are you estimating the idle RPM's? Do you have the digital dispaly and headlight setup? I just go by sound :) The problems you were experienceing is exactly it. I needed to wifes approval to get the bike so I to was holding back on telling the missus I should have kept the old honda..... of course this is the last thing on my mind now ...crikey, i'd never hear the end of it :))

I think the front sprokety on mine is 14/rear 47. Will change to 15 and see what happens as I dont use first (too low).

Halfway thru my first ride the coolant had spilled into the overflow bottle even with the factory 1.8 cap :S I put it down to running hot during break in, this is mainly due to the 30+ degree temps. (hopefully this is the case)

Keep that bottle half full, if you keep it empty, hot coolant can melt it.

Arr nce to know. When I picked the bike up from the dealer I said shouldnt there be some coolant in the bottle? they said nope it will be fine :bonk:

Dealer told me I had the enduro version, now Ive just come to realise the TE is for enduro (I hav TXC). Whats the main difference between the two bikes except for fuel injection and shorter swingarm on the TE?

TXC is the GNCC version, so it is set up for a little different kind of racing (I should be getting my 450 next week after 10 years on Yamahas, need to get a new avitar).
The other differences I found on the 450's:
Carb diameter: TE = 0.42mm, TXC = 0.37mm
Kick stand: TE = has one, TXC = nope
Head light: TE = has one, TXC = nada
Taillight and license plate: TE = you betcha, TXC = not
Street legal: TE = yes, TXC = ticket

My TXC has-
Kick and electric start.
No side stand
No head light or tail light or digital display.

Dealer said I can put the stand and lights on if I want to register it.

Worst case I will put some TE stickers on it and try LOL
