I went +1 tooth (16T) on the front sprocket and love it. It is a common mod on the 610. Less work and less $$ than changing the rear. Either way check with

Can you say what year your bike is?

I want to go up in the front sprocket. I have an 08 SM 610, but have read that it doesn't seem to fit a 16t up there for some... To others it works...

By looking at the space it looks tight... Do you ever have issues with the chain touching the bike?

You said you went to 17 (1+?) I think the bike is 15t stock, isn't it?

Please advise!

Also, did you loose much power for your wheelies? Are they still doable in 1st and 2nd gear by just banging it? Does it take clutching?

Real curious!

Thans!

Thanks a lot for your reply!

Can you comment on how it works?

Do you get more top speed? How's the RPMs at say 75 or 80 MPH?

Did you loose much torque like for wheelies?

Most importantly, has the chain ever touched the engine? Any chance of that happening due to the tightness?

Thanks again!

A 17T should fit the 610, I think it was even stock in europe for a while.

Correct, 15T is stock on the SM610 and I went to a 16T. I was thinking 17T on my KZ750... too many bike to keep track of.

It fits, chain length is something a few have had issues with. I just slid my wheel all the way foward and slipped the chain on the sprocket before I put the sprocket on the shaft. Be sure to greese the shaft when you put the new sprocket on.

Thanks a lot for the part number and all!

Could you comment on how it works for you? Did you loose wheelie power? How's top speed? rpms @ 80 mph, etc?

Thanks!

I love the bike with the taller 16T CS. It makes 6th gear "freeway only". It's just perfect at 65-70MPH on the freeway. There is a ton of riders over on SMJ that love the mod. IMO it's how the bike should come stock. ... with stock rear tire size that is... On my second set of tires I went +1 on the rear to get a longer lasting enduro version of the Distianza. The larger rear tire was too tall with the 16T. I went back to the 15T with the 160 rear and the ratio is exactly the same as a 16T 150 rear combo.

I mainly ride Forest Service road at high speed. 20-30 miles of freeway to get to the mountains. No wheelies for me. Other's say it still weelies with the 16T.

Thanks a lot for the response!

It seems like I just need to get one and give it a try. My main concern was the tightness, but it seems like many are using it w/o problems... If other '08 users have it, it should work with mine.

Thanks again!
