I just got back on a very long trip with my 450, and do I mean a very long trip! I was down in Mexico with some friends of mine and we went from San Felipe to La Paz and back, which came out to be exactly 2011 miles. The bike ran great. The only thing that happened, was on the last 107 mile trek, my water pump started to leak out of the seep hole underneath. I just got back on Monday so I haven't even torn it apart yet. I am guessing that the o-ring is bad, The only thing I have to look at is the scamatic in the book.Other than that the bike ran flawlessly!!!I can also tell you guys that I went 102 miles before I had to put it on reserve. Don't ask me, that kind of baffled me also. So I tried it twice, and again 102 miles. My key sheared right when I got the bike like every one else,(before any jetting was done or any mods)to my understanding all the dealer did was install the new key and retorqued to 47 foot pounds. This was before anyone started talking about lapping the crank shaft or anything.I have been gone for two weeks and this stuff about the recall is a first for me.I don't know what to tell you guys but that is the truth!! I am going to get a hold of my dealer just to pick there brains about what every one is talking about, but thats it unless somethign happens! If you have any questions feel free.

Fantastic to here the woodruff problem is no problem at all! I and many others here have been fending off the negative comments and now we have proof! I have 668 miles on mine with the original woodruff key. How do you get 50 miles to the gallon? Is it all cruising at low rpms in top gear on hard pack that lets you get those numbers or can you get that in sand with liberal amounts of throttle? I seem to get only 25 mpg when riding hard in soft terrain with hills.

Good job ! Having riden WR's for 5 years, I knew this bike was truly enduro material. But, I'm having the TSB performed by the dealer as I type.

Question. Did the WR450 throw/burn much oil through that duration ? It seems that this model goes through less oil than my previous WR400 and WR426. If not, then that is truly amazing.

My water pump weeper leaked after my first ride. It is an easy fix. Since the fix no further problems.

That is incredible gas mileage. I would like to hear more about the conditions that produced it. I got 55 miles before reserve where most of it was a two hour hare scramble.

Duke, That is awesome. I also have ridden mine down in Baja a tad, but not 2000 miles. I pre-ran the San Felipe race course on mine without a problem. I've never done anything with the flywheel or Woodruff key, just ride.

I too am wondering about that gas mileage, are you sure you didn't go 102KM? I know the San Felipe area is real sandy and soft, unless of course, you guys just rode on the highways.

I have a IMS 3.1ga desert tank on mine and I did a 75 mile ride this last weekend and barely made it back to camp. Of course I was riding pretty hard and the trail was real rocky and steep in places with switchbacks.

It's good to hear that most of us are enjoying our new KING OF THE DESERT WR450's. I have no regrets, thats for sure.

hey allison, hope you get this, but what did you fix to stop the weeping of fluid? The only thing I can see in the scamatic is the bearing/gasket around the impeler shaft. Is this what you replaced? The only thing that I can say about the gas mileage is maybe cause we were going so fast all the time? On the average by my GPS, we were going about 48 mph. If you want to go really fast in some spots, baja is the place. The fastest I could get it to do by my GPS was 79 mph with stock gearing. Next year I will not have stock gearing, and I will have a steering dampener! Now that my suspension is broke in(to say the least) I think I am going to have the front revalved. I haven't decided yet?

Wow! 668 miles on an 03, you need to ride more!

I think this bike had over 20,000 on it before it was stolen in 06 or 07.

Here's a bump for your water pump problem.

Wow. The is the second 5-6 year old thread ivs seen revived this morning! To answer your question yes replacing the seal will fix the problem but look for wear on the shaft too or you will be doing the job again soon! Do a search, there are a couple of threads with step-by-step and pictures. :)
