These things are super cheap.I paid $750.00 for the bus,and the camper was free, but the roof leaked pretty bad,I don't care. All I wanted was the roof A/C,furnance,refridge,electrical converter, stove, toilet, sink, shower, tables, beds, wiring etc.I am going to use everything I can from the camper, then I'll haul the metal siding to the dump, and build a trailer from the camper frame(if possible)to tow my wife's car so when we get to the riding area, she can do her own thing.Everybody's happy.
I think I can do the whole project for less than $5,000.You will be surprised at how much stuff you can find for free or next to nothing if you just ask.I have 90 to 95% of the stuff to finish the project,I just need 2 weeks off work to get the project done.
I think once I get the bus painted, and the rooms and garage framed it will start going together fast.
Stay tuned for more pictures!

As far as license are concerned,Progressive insurance has a category for school bus/RV conversions, less than $400.00 a year. And a friend went to the state of Georgia's licensing web site, and they also have a school bus/RV category for license,It says the owner/driver may operate with immediate family only,so I took that as you don't need a CDL to operate as long as it's not being used for commercial use.
I have a class A CDL,but no passenger endorsement.
And as someone else said"How often do you see a school bus pulled over by cops?

That's what I was thinking.
A short bus like that would probably be super cheap and not having to pay labor on fiberglassing cuts the costs way down. Fiberglass is cheap, someone who can do decent work with fiberglass is not.

The short bus totally defeats the purpose of converting a bus into a toy hauler w/ seperate living quarters.

MAX!!!

I removed the metal interior panels, and installed them on the exterior in place of the windows.Metal will cover all the windows, and I have a couple camper windows to install.Posted Image

How are you sealing the metal exterior panel at the top to prevent leaks?  Is there a factory drip edge where the roof rolls down and transitions to the exterior side?

MAX!!!

There is a drip edge at the top,and the new panel has a drip edge at the bottom.I'm making a piece from aluminum for the front that has the same contour at the ribs in the panels
I'm going to seal the whole thing with a 50yr.window caulk.I hope to get it painted this weekend.

I think I read on his last page of his site that he only had 14k into the whole project, including the cost of the bus.

They built it for him on Overhaulin so he didn't have that much into it.

I would recommend side and rear view cameras for safe driving for obvious reasons. I can't wait to see it done!

Here in Canada, (well, ontario, anyway) As long as it doesnt say 'School bus' anywhere on it (I think it may need to be a different color as well.. not positive) you only need a G-class (standard) License.

I think you need a large nitro circus banner on the side...
