yz426 trouble starting when hot

my 426 starts 1-2 kicks when cold or cool out but after riding for say 15mins or longer i will stop and shut the bike off and it will start up no problem within a minute, but if i leave it for 5mins or longer i will try kicking over 30 times, bump starting it, and trying hot start none seem to work and i get really angry then i finally get it going after pushing it to the nearest hill to bump start it, but its odd when i start it in the shad after 5 mins or more it will fire no problem so im thinking the engine is really hot, the suns beaming on it making it hotter or the valves are outta wack, any help on this?

Check your valve clearance. I suspect they may be a bit tight.

ya but i dont know how and i have no place to do it and ive already put $2500 into the bike so should i just sell the thing before more problems occur? and also is it good to ride like that and what will happen if i ride like that (the valves the way they are) for 2 more months? will it F my bike up or jus do nothing?

Check\Adjust the valves or have it done its easy. If you ride it you risk blowing it up for sure.

how much will a the dealer charge you to do that? like 250$?

I doubt it will be that much. It takes like an hour tops to adjust them..30 minutes to check them.

checking them is super easy you can do it yourself. I garuntee they are just tight if they havent been adjusted before.

Frankly, I doubt it's valves. For one thing, tight valves ordinarily affect cold starting more than hot, because the clearance closes up when it cools down. It doesn't hurt to check though, and you should do it anyway, if you never have.

90% of the starting problems with a 426 are related to incorrectly tuned idle circuits (pilot jet and screw setting) and/or operator error. Getting the carb right is critical, especially for hot starts.

ok well i called my dealer he says its 150 to check and adjust valves, but im not gunna do it cuz im only gunna go on a tops of 10 more rides before the summer ends and im selling it after that

Just make sure to tell the person who buys it your selling it because you think its a time bomb and don't want to risk keeping it.

I don't understand how you put $2500 into something without even touching the motor. what was so expensive? labor?

no things went into the motor to,new piston,timing chain and wutever else he did and its not a timing bobmb its a great runing bike witha few minor problems that could be fixed but i dont have time or patience or money to do that for a 10yr old bike
