I read on Thumperfaq.com that you can lengthen the clutch arm on a 426...
my question is, can this same mod be done to a 400?

it has on there that the 400 is 5mm longer than the 250F
so can I lengthen my 400's 5mm?

Most things on the 400 are the same as the 426 - yes - you can lengthen it.
Another way to lighten the pull is to replace the lever with one that has the hole for the cable end lower and back some (or drill a new hole in your existing lever). Someone did a writeup on it.
