Gearing recommendations?

I have had my WR/R (my first dirtbike) for a little over a year now and have now come to the point where I am not happy with the amount of torque I am currently working with.
The only mods I have done is the power commander and removal of the airbox lid and spark arrestor.

I am now considering changing the gearing to feel more "pull".

However, I do ride on the highway quite a bit and am concerned with the downside of doing this.

Stock is 13/43 correct?

Any advice anyone could give would be GREATLY appreciated as I am far from an expert on this subject. :worthy:

Maybe, there is another mod I should try before changing the gearing?

Try a 12t front first. It's cheap and will give you a good baseline for future changes.

13/47 gearing, with the extra height of the 120/90/18 D606's, feels just about perfect on mine. Its happiest cruising at 60mph on the highway, but the bike feels so so so much more controllable on and off-road. Being able to slow down without worry about chugging or stalling out made it so much easier to ride off road, I'm no longer finding myself caught between gears like I was stock on and off the road, and the extra little oomph helps raise the fun factor (and front tire :smirk: ). I'm thinking of getting a 14T front for longer road-only trips where I'd want a better cruising speed though, its really not happy over 65mph (GPS) with 13/47.

I have a 12t front on my wr250x. It's great.

The downside to any gearing change on a WR is the indicated speed goes from being incorrect, to wildly incorrect.

One tooth down in front does not require a new chain either.

1 tooth on the front roughly equals three in the back, the 12 in the front will give your bike noticably more rip but it will likely wear faster

And if you replace the front with a 12t, you wont have to get a new chain to go along with the higher toothed rear sprocket... like me.... $140 later.... :P
