Has anyone tried to register a dual sport in MA? I've seen the stickied chart and read about a number of conversions, but I'm wondering about how the actual procedure works. Some people say that everything is done by the VIN and it is impossible to do the conversion? I'm looking to convert a DRZ250, and I know exactly what I need to buy, but I dont understand the paperwork aspect. Any help appreciated!

I bought my XRR with a MA title already, but the previous owner told me the story. From what I can gather, all he needed to do was have the certificate of origin, a dual sport kit (with recipts), insurance, and DOT tires. You fill out some forms and take the whole lot of paper and bike to a State Police ball busting inspector. He makes you reroute wires or whatever else he decides then you come back 1 or 2 more times and eventually get signed off. Then you submit the paperwork to the RMV and you get a title.

The VIN on the title is the same as the VIN on my 1995 XR frame and my insurance company had no problems and nobody thinks anything odd about it at the RMV or insurance. From what I have heard MA is actually pretty lenient about this stuff.
