Hello everyone. 8-) I'm new to this site and at fourms in general. First time poster. But for everything, thier is a first.
I have been searching the fourms, but only having Dial-up internet makes it rough!! Maybe help could come to me instead. 8-)
I Just got a 2003 KLX400 (Street model) with 1,900 miles. I know the DRZ400 is the same bike. It's allmost all stock except for the bars and exhaust power tip. I'm looking to make it better for the road, CHEAP! I need lower RPM's when crusing around 70MPH. I'm thinking bigger C/S sprocket?? It's running 14/44 now. I'm at 260 LBS 5' 7", so I've adjusted the front shocks (bottom adjustment) one turn out from the hardest?? To help with diving when I hit the brakes?? Also I want to make it as fuel efficient as possible. What can be done for that? I was thinking going back to the stock exhaust tip, also I want it quieter, so I can sneak around on the trials. And the stock seat!! Do I have to say it? Crap!! any sugestions on a CHEAP one?
Thanks for all your help guys, what would we do without the internet!
Brian

15/44 is stock gearing. Putting a 15 up front will help. As far as your suspension..Not much you can do at your weight but have it resprung. Stock suspension is designed for a 170 lb rider.

Run your rear spring down to @ the half way point on the threads. For the front, turn the top adjuster more toward the H direction, and possibly go to the next heavier oil.

I was thinking about 16 teeth, too much? I can do some grinding as I read needs to be done. I could change the rear gear too. I'll check out that rear shock nut., and that website for a seat too. I did just buy the MCCT and jet kit for the 3x3 mod, that might give me more MPG's. I found my C/S nut way loose!! almost off! Thank you for this site, I would have never checked it.
I dodn't know what exhaust tip it is, it's got a big hole and a screen and it's shinny, and louder than stock. thats all I know.
Thanks again
Brian

I wouldnt gear it higher than stock 15/44. Why? Its too much for a stock motor and dirt wheels. It'll be harder on the clutch and lugging the motor (bad). I doubt there will be any significant fuel savings either.
