How many of you guys/girls run your DRZs fully dirt? Im getting a DRZ400E soon and will be riding dirt for about a year untill i can get my licence what does everyone think? very good?

Ill only be riding trails so mostly forrestry/logging dirt roads plus some hillclimbs. Any advice/opinions on what you think will be great

Cheers Jason

I run my S in full dirt, its great but its heavy compared to other dirt bikes and if you don't do any mods to the DRZ its a little bit of a dog in the dirt....

I like it because I can ride to the trails and ride home....

Do the 3x3 and jetting get protection for the cases and rads and see what happens.

My drz is pretty much a dirt only bike. the motor is a tractor and works great offroad. The suspension is too soft and will need to be set up proper.

Luckily your looking at the E model... it's a much better start for a dirt only setup than the S model.... since if you started with an S you would end up spending a ton of money getting the S model to be more like the E model.

The E model is perfect for that kind of riding. Very reliable, low maintenance, will go anywhere. You're going to have fun! Enjoy! :ride:

I'm 99.9% dirt.

People complain about the DRZ in the dirt but the DRZ is worse of a road bike then a dirt bike.

I think it's an awesome dirt bike.

2003 S nothing but single track and other off road only stuff. Has not had a plate or tail light in years.

Garage has pictures, though they are a bit old now.

Great bike for having fun off road.. You want to win national level races; there are better choices for sure... But learn to ride a DRZ off road,, and have fun while you’re at it.
Bottom line, if you and the DRZ cannot make it down a trail, up a hill, over an obstacle,, It's not the bikes fault.

Given the new Aussie E still has the FCR what's the general consensus here as to appropriate engine mods for mainly dirt riding
Will a BB kit add usable power for this application?
Alternatively, would upgrading the suspension come before the BB when it comes to overall performance ?

unless you are the 70kg rider the bike was seemingly designed for.
YES

i ride my stock S 80% dirt roads/trail and i weight 220. yes the suspension is soft but i am aerodynamically challenged so i dont jump it and i avoid the whoops. i have only bottomed it out once threw a whoop section after 5600 miles of riding it.
it is a good bike for cruising the back roads and riding trails. if you plan on riding it like an MX'er then you will need to upgrade the suspension.
