For me my front rim is 21 x 1.5 and rear is 18 x 2.15. I have 90/90-21 front and 120/80-18 Avon Gripsters on there now. I have all positives but I think they are a little too hard, but that's why they last. I would like to get some 80s/20offroad if they didn't look like street bike tires, and I do fire roads every once in awhile so 70/30 I guess. I want to go 130/80 in rear but as you know wheel sizes limit choice if you want your tires to "match". I have had some mixed results with certain pairings. What's your favorite setup and how are they used?
In your opinion the best 70 street / 30 off-road tire is?

The MT 21 is rated 90 off road and 10 on!! I am planning on doing this on my 17" set up for my next tires which should be in the next 1000KM or so since I drive lots of gravel roads and trails. I presently use the Kenda 761's and I would say they are 95 street and 5 off road.

If I ride in the dirt at all, I like a dirty tire. +1 on the MT-21, and I also like the Pirelli Scorpion Pro on the front.
The front tire is usually what will take you down.
Rear 70/30 tire Kenda K270.
I'm burning through a set of Kenda Parker DTs ATM, but is too eairly to tell how long they will last in the rocks and Asphalt. They don't feel bad for a knobby on the back, and they hook-up well in the dirt. No test in Mud yet.
Dunlop 606 on the back is good too. (use the above tires on the front)

Me too. I know that it doesn't help the OP at all, but I run (and have been loving) Pirelli XCMH's lately....great off road, not too terribly bad on the street either.
As for 70/30, I've been hearing good things about Pirelli Scorpion Pro's from a buddy. I might throw them on my spare set of 21/18's that I have laying around......

Thanks and keep the opinions coming. Reality is I use this bike on the road almost everyday and hit the dirt every month. I'd rather go slower and slip and slide a bit on the dirt as long as I can get where I'm going. Wearing out soft dirt knobs super fast, having the bike track on the highway and a general sense of insecurity on street turns is not worth it to me. Knobbys look cool and work the dirt best but I have a YZ426 when I want to get dirty. This is more of a commuter. I hear trial tires are actually nice on the road but wear out like running in the street with socks on.

I have a set of Maxxis 6006 on my bike now they grip well on the road and are okay off road except in mud then they get slick quick they are rated as a 50-50 tire. they wear kinda quick on all pavement tho

How's you get the sides of your tire tred to do that? I want to avoid it.

I did a track day at Grange (paved kart track). Why do you want to avoid it?

Was that from the track day when I was there??....cause mine were pretty gummed up when I left

The Kenda 270 is a really good tire for the price. I think I paid about $80 for a set. Last around 3-4000 miles :ride:

That's the sign of someone having a good time. Embrace it!
