Hi all,
I have been doing some searching but I am running out of time - I have a big ride this weekend and may need to order some parts. I recently changed the oil and started the loctite fixes on an '09 SM and found a few small items missing from the dealership's 600 mile service and performance flywheel installation.
When I removed the oil filter - no o-ring behind the filter! I was pretty careful and even dredged my oil catch pan looking for it encase I dropped it. Couldn't find it anywhere. I contacted the dealership and they don't have them in stock. They said that it was a 13.9mm ID and a 1.9mm thickness. I went to my local hardware store and bought a few 1/2" ID, 11/16" OD, 3/32" thick o-rings for $0.25 each. Would these be close enough? At least for a 1 day ride?
The next problem I found when I took off the stator cover to do the loctite fixes. The gear to the top right of the flywheel did not have a circlip to hold it on the shaft. It is possible that this popped off when I removed the cover, but I didn't see or hear anything suspicious when the cover came off, so I suspect it happened when the dealership installed the lightweight flywheel. I have put over 1000mi on the bike since then and the gear looks fine, no visible wear. I picked up a couple of stainless steel circlips at the hardware store hoping one will fit . . . Can anyone tell me the correct size for this circlip? Will it do some serious damage if I don't have it on for a 1 day ride? I seems to be pretty well retained by the stator cover . . . but I don't want to strip out the gear around the flywheel. Advice?
I have been meaning to buy a shop manual - now I am going to order one this week. I have 2 days left to make repairs - can anyone point me in the right direction on safe, short-term fixes for these issues?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers,
Compression Release
