Hi all,

New to the forum - and a new DRZ 400 SM K7 owner (as of a week!)

I want to be sure about this bike being in great condition, so a few questions...

Firstly.. spec;

DEP full exhaust system
3x3 Mod - re-jet
K7, Reg in 2008
2600 miles on the clock.

I've ordered 2 new oil filters, but I'm unsure on whether to flush the old oil out with some cleaner to remove the possible crap?

Do you think it's worth me buying some stuff to put in the oil to give it a clean out? If so, what's best?

I'm still yet to fully read up on the lock tight bits, for now I want to make sure it's lubed up.

The bike runs well, pops now and again, I did manage to decrease this by a fair amount by adjusting the mixture screw by turning it out half a turn.

The plate behind is being burnt, excess fuel in the exhaust? Valve clearance out? Normal?

Cheers for any advice!

Oil flush? No not unless you have water in it or gas, and that is normally done with cheap oil anyway.

Change the filter, drain the crankcase and frame, clean the screen and ride.

See the FAQ there is a good step by step that shows you everything.

Ok cool, thank's for the response.

I won't bother with the flush.. will do a change of oil + filter though for sure.

What's this all about oil the air filter after clean? I haven't manage to find any threads about this?

Just get yourself some air filter oil, I just ordered the No Toil air filter maintenance kit. It comes with cleaner, oil, and grease for the seal, I figured it was the easiest option and it was only around $15 from the TT store. The manual recommends regular motor oil but that's not the best option.

oiling the air filter is done to help catch dust and dirt so that they don't find their way into your engine or carb.

as stated above don't use engine oil. just buy some air filter oil. there are many brands out there and the stuff is cheap. i picked up some Uni air filter oil at my local shop for like $5.
