.
Polisport handguards. These were mine after catching branches at fairly modest speeds – no falling off involved!

They are a few years old, maybe they are using a better plastic now.

I bodged them up with some old dustbin until I decide what to replace them with (££…)

Those are just plastic right? I kind of expect that it wouldn't be very strong compared to metal ones. ..not bad styling though,

I also want to advise to stay clear of the Moose plastics. I bought white ones and they have turned a disgusting yellow after 6 months. :banghead:

I have gone through 2 sets of Acerbis guards this season with no heavy crashing. I will never buy them again. Hell, when I installed the first set the collar that goes around the bars cracked and broke in half at 6 ft/lbs of torque. Crap I tell ya! Now get off my lawn!

My EMGO's have been beaten senseless (same as Maier Extreme's) and haven't missed a beat. Not bad for $60! Handguards gotta have that aluminum insert to survive!

Any aluminium type handguard is going to be much better than a fully plastic type. One's that come to mind are Zeta's, some Acerbis etc.. but expect to pay around £50-60 for a decent set.

Cycra Pro Bends. Been on there for 8 months. No issues. Been on the tarmac a couple of times...

I had Acerbis busters, but the plastic wore out from UV radiation and various crashes.
I removed the plastic, and since then I've only had the aluminum bars.
Works just the same for me.

that's a wonder. emgo usually makes junk.

The Cycra pro bends have replacable sliders on the side. Install a set of bar sliders from SM engineering and you can't lose. That is the set up that I am running.

No doubt, but they are the exact same as the Maier's, only 1/3 less money (cause they say EMGO not Maier) and I've field tested 'em hard (trust me) with nothing more than gouged/scratched plastic.

My fastway handguards have been great, but the plastic shields, not so much. The last set I had fractured from hits like they were brittle. I know the mfg was testing their forumulation by freezing them, as they had fracturing complaints in cold weather. On the day I toasted both my handguard shields it was in the 50s. I have a new set, so the jury is still how on how they'll hold up. This testing was a while back, so I'm wondering if I got an old set.

My Emgos have been very tough. I've dumped the bike several times, scratch and bent the handguards but no cracks or splits. I did replace one because it had a bad case of rock rash. That event bent the stock handle bar but the Emgo held its own. My only complaint is that you need to bend the new guards to get a proper fit so the levers have ample clearance.

Nice!

Yeah I have been using the same Acerbis reinforced guards for a good 6 years on various bikes - they are very tough. But just too expensive for me to rush out and buy another pair!

I was also impressed with the plain plastic KTM ones on my 525. Some plastics (cheap) do go brittle with age/sun exposure, I suspect that is the case with these Polisport ones.

Cycra Probends here as well. Extremely tough guards. Mine have been well tested.
