.
When I started testing carbs and the like I did some top-speed runs and was very surprised to find the FMF open pipe was about 5mph slower than the quiet stock pipe!!

I recalled the previous owner mentioning a baffle at the header end so I have a closer look.

Here it is – it was neatly fitted but it put up a long, hard fight before it came out and got a bit mangled!

Instead of a short thing it was 8 inches of completely rubbish and restrictive crap baffling :banghead:

With that out, not surprisingly the bike went much better…. And it didn’t really make a lot of difference to the noise; LOUD to LOUDER !

All my testing in previous posts was with the pipe unbaffled….

Well, to me it looks like its an FMF genuine part as it fitted perfectly and had a good finish, or at least it did once!

This leaves me even more baffled (sic) as it seems crazy that FMF would supply something so restrictive and ineffective.

Whichever way you look at it, someone designed it, and someone fitted it, and in neither case any common sense or intelligence was used!!

I was at my local shop tonight, and saw that insert!

But it was not bent.
Was a pair, poly bagged from Drag Specialties. Guy told me it's for Harleys, straight pipes, etc.

Hit Google and voila: http://www.dragspeci...k/7/147/7712112

That looks like something found on fleabay - a DB killer

Only the PO decided to install it in the pipe rather than pushing in the end of the tail pipe.
