How often do you clean your air filter on your wr250r? I check mine often but i went on a dusty ride yesterday and the air box had some dust in it.I wiped it out but the filter still looks pretty clean. What do you us to clean it? The book says 4000 miles or more frequently in wet or dusty areas.
Thanks
Jim

So i get some air filter oil, some kind of grease to seal filter off and for the air box door. What do i clean the foam filter with? I guess they sell a cleaner to use? How many times can i clean before replacing? Sorry for all the questions.I just want to take care of this bike. All my other bikes where used 2t i just rode.
Thanks

I agree.
If you're riding off-road a lot, I'd service the air filter very often.

Use a real foam filter oil like Maxima FFT (my favorite).
All of the big motorcycle chemical/oil brands have a foam air filter cleaner, too.
You spray it on the filter or submerge the filter in it (depending on how it's packaged) and wash out the old oil and dirt.
Rinse with clean water.
Wrap the filter in paper towels and squeeze out the water.
Allow to dry.
Reoil with filter oil.
Squeeze out the excess oil by trying to squeeze out as much as you can - you only need on the filter what you can't squeeze out.
Put the filter back on the metal cage, grease the sealing surface of the filter, and install into the airbox.
Make sure the wire retainer is properly fastened.
No need to put grease on the airbox door - it'll just make a mess.

Yamaha Owner's Manuals (and all of the others, too) will sometime not be precise enough with their service intervals, and they still use text that was originally written back in the DT-1 and AT-2 days. :)

There was an article in dirtbiek magazine about 2 months ago that said a lot of times people do more harm than good fussing with their air filter too often getting it behind the filter when taking it in/out etc.

Not really going against anything thats been said but just thought id throw that out there too.

+3 on the No-Toil filters. I have one I rotate with the stock filter. I use No-Toil oil so I throw the dirty filter in the washing machine with some No-Toil cleaner. Greatest invention ever.

On my X I change the air filter when I change the oil but if I had an R I would change it every time I rode in the dirt.
