I sold my Honda and am looking at the 2009 YZF 450... What can owners tell me about this bike?

Looking for opinions from Honda guys that may have switched brands. I have had a local shop offer me a seriously reduced price on a new YZF 450 but I have only had Honda's for the last 7 years.

I owned every CRF450R (and an X somewhere in there) from 2002 through 2005, and have ridden and crashed my brains out on my buddies' 06-09 more times than they care to remember.

You will not have remorse going to the 09 or the 08 YZ450F. Leave the stock exhaust on and you'll have a mind blowing off-road bike; switch the silencer to a Dr. D, for example, and now you have a dragster-like weapon.

Leaving the Honda's valve issues out of the discussion (admission: I had NO valve issues with any of my CRF 450 or 250 bikes, go figure), the 08 and 09 YZ450F leaves little if anything to the Honda. Heck, to any manufacturer.

If the price is right and dealer after-sale support is what you want then pull the trigger. Good luck.

Thanks guys... I think all MFG make a good unit these days, but I have zero experience with Yamaha and have only ridden an 07 (did not like it). What is the difference between 07-08/09

i switched from and 05 crf 450 than scored on an 06 yz450. my honda had more low end but other than that im alot happier on my yz. The suspension i think is alot better than my honda, i just had my suspension done with re valve and bigger springs on my crf and i still like the stock yz suspension better but its a little to soft. the crf is now my dads bike

08/09 has new shock linkage and steering angle and 09 also came with new swing arm. Also, both years came with shorty exhaust and bigger foot pegs. I also believe that the haeds are bigger on the 08/09 to compensate for the shorty exhaust:thumbsup:

I had an 06, the 09 is a huge improvement!

The suspension is just incredible and the turning is drastically improved (once I dumped the D742FA front tire). Other than a few offroad specific items I haven't done a thing to it.

Thanks guys. I know the 2010 will be very different but saving over $3grand is worth it to me. Out the door and no tax (out of state) I am $4880 on a brand new 2009.
