What oil do you use?

Recommended Posts

Is this true of 4 stroke oils? If I change every 5 hours without fail, do you really think the brand matters?
No, and yes.

If we were talking only about lubing an engine, that would be an entirely different thing. But we have transmission in the mix. Read the link I posted. Some of the most popular auto/commercial oils used by members of this site will barely make it two hours without falling out of grade (wherein your 40wt becomes a 30, or less). What matters is whether the oil was blended to be an engine oil AND a gear lube.

ive been useing Rotella for a while now and havent had any problems because of it. i change it ever 6 hours no matter what and its still comes out looking clean...

What it looks like tells you nothing about its viscosity. Send a used sample to Blackstone and when the report comes back, look at the viscosity at 200 ℉. It won't be a 40wt anymore.

I ran Yamalube 4R for years with no issues at all, but I changed it every 2-3 hours on my hour meter. It does shear down in tests. For the last year and a half I've been running Maxima max-4 and it seems to be good, though I still change it very often.

I raced my R6 for years on the Rotella synthetic... I loved being able to get it whenever i wanted and its quality and cheap!

I'm new to this and just bought an 08 yz450f ... so heres my question...

those of you using rotella do you use the 5w40 synthetic or the 15w40 non synthetic?

Specto 10w 40 semi synthetic. Just been running it for years. Dont remember how I got onto it. But stuck with it in all of our thumpers and have had good luck.

Thats what I use! Seems to work well and at my local shop it is a lot cheaper by the gallon.

cool, but now i have to go swap out my synthetic... is it true wally world has this in a 5 gallon!?

I'm not sure if Wally World has it in 5 gallon buckets or not, but a place like Rural King or Tractor Supply should. I buy it in the 1 gallon containers, which Wally World keeps in stock.
