I bought a second had rim that needs new spokes. The spokes are presently too tight or just plain loose. It has a wobble in it. I have tried to work on the spokes but the loose ones will not tighten and the tight ones feel like they want to brake.

A couple of people have said that the wheel is ok to use until I get new spokes..others tell me the other. I think it will just break and my kid will get hurt.

I was told that the only rim you want to ride on is one that that been trued the best you can.

Can anyone settle this discussion ?

Thanks

Don't ride with loose spokes or with over tightened spokes. It is ok to ride with a wheel that is slightly out of true, but only if all of the spokes are tight to an appropriate amount. Spray penetrating oil on all of the spoke nipples, hold the spokes with vice grips and turn the nipples with a spoke wrench. Loosen them all up. Then tighten them back up to a proper tightness. You can tape a pen to your bike as a pointer to try and get it as true as you can, but if it has a slight wobble it isn't the end of the world.
