traded my 1995 YZ125 (fresh top end and like new OEM clutch assymbly) for a 1990 Kaw TS 650 jetski that runs good, looks ok, just needs the handle bars welded. came with good trailer. A guy off craigslist got ahold of me and we did a straight trade. do you think that was an ok deal? of course i still have my restored 82RM250 for the dirt. but i think the jetski will be good fun to take out with my old junky ski boat. any mantanance advice for jetskis?? since it is a 2 stoke does it need rings as often as a dirt bike? compression test says its good for now. the guy said he put new bearings and seals in the jet thing recently. i'm just anal about maintnance and would like to no what to watch and what to check. and what kind off 2 stroke oil? thanks :ride:

Just use the cheap super tech oil from walmart. I assume it is oil injected right? And no they dont go through pistons and rings like dirtbikes do. Their engines are more similar to snomobile engines. Is it a twin or a tripple?

Everyone I know ditches the oil injection and mixes the gas themselves.

That what I always did with my old kawi 300sx, the oil injection worked fine, just didn't want to take any chances.

That motor should last a while. I have a Yamaha 650 Superjet that is 16 years old and is still on the original topend with great compression. These ski motors aren't are not nearly as high performance as our dirtbike engines and they don't rev as high either. My RM250 probably makes 45hp, my 650 Yamaha makes only 50hp stock.

As for oil , any TCW-3 two stroke oil will work. For maintainence, I always flushed the engine for a couple minutes after a day of riding. Then I would disconnect the garden hose and fogg the engine for 30 seconds or so.

agreed , fog the motor if u plan on the ski sittin more than a few days, what happens is when u run the ski, the waterbox aka muffler will be full of water and the heat from the motor will be in the exhaust and then forms moister that will put surface rust on ure piston rings , i had a 98 seadoo gsxl man that ski was fun i miss it

its called ''fogging oil '' ure local marine shop will sell it , with the motor running bring the rpm up to around 3500 aproximite and spray the fogging oil through the carbs , this will coat the engine interanlly so no rust will form

The 80's- early 90's Kawi's had bullet proof motors. Another vote for fogging if it's going to sit long. I used to have a pair of 1979 Wet Bikes that were a blast to ride and got a lot of looks at the lake. I miss ripping across the lake.
