03 rm 250 out of gas in 9 mi?????

my brother topped off his tank on his first ride aboard his new to him suzuki rm 250 and ran out of gas in 9 mi what could it be please help...we had to tow him 4 mi on loop 25 elkins flat ca....float in carb maybe?????:banghead:

damn, maybe gas was running completely out of his bike, did he notice anything like that when he kicked it? or did he smell gas?

Sounds like the float is bad or the needle is worn out. Either way, that's the only thing that's gonna cause you to go through that much gas that quickly. If it hasn't been acting up prior, maybe you got some dirt in there just enough to keep the needle from seating properly.

Sounds like the float is coming to high up and allowing the bowl to just keep filling. Put some gas in it and turn the gas on, wait about 30 seconds then watch the hoses that come out of his carb to see if there is a constant stream of gas.

Definitely a leak in the carb, most likely from the float bowl and coming out a breather/bleed hose. Make sure his drain bolt is tight or even on there at all.

Yes, has to be the float needle not seating and letting it run straight out the overflow tube. I don't think you could run 2 gals. through the jets in 9 miles no matter how rich it was.:crazy:
