Came off a WR250F onto this bike....

After 15 miles this is my opinion:

Pros

-Light and handles incredible.
-Seems to have lots of power.
-Suspension felt good with only minor tweaking.

Cons

-Seat seemed hard
-Footpegs seem small
-Moving the handlebars to the forward position interferes with computer.
-Seat height is tall but pegs seem high. Felt cramped a bit.

Things I miss about my WR

-Rekluse Pro.
-Fastway low wide footpegs.
-GPR underbar stabilizer.

All of these are going in right away:thumbsup:

Things that are different than my WR

-Power delivery of a 2 stroke.
-Throttle response is far quicker.
-Much lighter
-Much easier to do a wheelie:bonk:

All in all very pleased however can't wait for the comfort zone items like Rekluse and GPR...

I'm really glad you posted a report. I ride a WR250f, and have been seriously considering a 200XCW. What type of riding do you do? (terrain and style) Is the weight difference huge? Did you really miss the magic button? How is the 200 on hills? Did you try a xc250 also? Let me know!!!

I ride trails and hare scrambles. The weight difference is around 50lbs which is huge...E start is nice but the goal was to get a HS bike that was as light as possible.

We did some hills including some with sand yesterday and it seemed fine however I think speed and momentum will be more important on the smoker 200.

Did not ride the 250 but did try out the 300 XCW.

Hey, add a EE seat to enhance the "comfort zone". http://www.enduroeng.com  The stock seat felt like it was filled with reddi-mix

What was your opinion on the 300 XC-W?

Only had a very short ride on a buddys 300 so I can't really give a solid opinion. I do recall it being very fast however:smirk:

How did the 200 compare to the 300? I bought the 300, but also considered the 200. (I am 195#, ride 70% tight single track, 25% deep sand ATV trails and 5% MX.) My final decision was based on needing the extra cc to push my fat a$$ throught the sand. I am always curious if I did the right thing....

Thanks

I'm 6'3 and 220 and as noted I did not ride the 300 enough to have a good idea to compare.

I had the 200 in some sand and it seemed at least as good as the WR was however I need to learn more about riding a smoker (a lot more LOL).

The Rekluses work better on bigger bore bikes with more torque. Not to say not to get one on the 200, but you just got the bike. Give yourself some time to get used to it and maybe try added FWW first. I can lug my 200 down to near nuthin without stalling. You will learn better clutch control with the 200, better braking and handling. Remember, with the Rekluse on the 2 stroke, no bump starting. lol

-of course the footpegs seem small coming off the Fastways, nothing to do with the bike. I have looked into those as well, maybe even the pivoting ones.
-Get an EE tall firm seat, makes all the difference for taller riders!
-You are used to lowered pegs. I am 6' and run my bars in the 3 pos. I also run a tall seat. Plenty roomy now. FYI, the 200 shares the same ergos now with the 250/300. It has a smaller engine cradle so it rides much lighter.

For the 200 vs 300 thang. I don't miss my 300's at all!! I weigh 210 without gear and about 235 with gear. The 200's 6 speed is just about perfect for the woods riding I do. The 300 was deceivingly fast, getting me over my head if I tried to get too aggressive with throttle. I can use more of the 200 power without fear of it getting away from me. I used very little of the power the 300 had to offer, making it kind of boring to ride. It chugged a little better than my 200, but was not nearly as quick to rev.

If you think there's a big weight drop going to a 300 from the WR, it's about the same feeling stepping from the 300 to the 200. The 200 is truly a mountain bike with a motor.

The 300 is a great bike, it was just too much for me to start out on. It skeered me. hehe. The 300 shines on more open terrain, in the hands of a skilled rider (B+ to A), higher elevations, for heavier riders...

The 200 shines in the woods, the tighter the better. It can be set up as a screamer or a chugger, just like the big bikes. Mine climbs like a mountain goat, just as well as the other KTM 2 strokes I have had, maybe better.

Interesting point with the Rekluse I had not considered...I have it ordered but perhaps will hold off on the install for a bit....

The tall EE seat looks great. Will order that today.

Thanks for input.

I thinking of starting a new business...Breaking in KTM seats...I weigh 300lbs and have the seat feeling good in about 10 hours of riding time...

The Rekluse is not in yet.....I am going to raise the bars as well. Still feels cramped.

Rode an MMA Motocross riders clinic on Saturday on this bike on a large MX track at Gimli. I was by far the oldest and slowest person in my group (any bike over 125 2 stroke). Needless to say the suspension was soft for this however I was not catching anywhere near the air everybody else was so it worked well...

What was amazing though was the power of this bike. It carried my 220lbs around that track like it was nothing and on long straights I could hang with the bigger bikes no problem. The light weight really helped with the fatigue factor as well. It was basically a 6 hour clinic so there was lots of riding...

I am going to have the heavy springs put in right away and run the clinic/race next week...

Thrilled with this bike....

Well I just came off an 08 YZ 450 with a Rekluse pro and low gearing, like to ride tight single track. Now Im on a 07 XC 200 stock. The power is way off from what Im used too, I could just roll on the gas and do anything with the 450, the 200 is another story...I still get there its just harder for me.The clutch hand I never used before now gets a monster work out!! And the foot that didnt shift much now shifts alot..
The weight hasnt crossed my mind.. The seat hight has, and I like the shorter bike.
The 450 had good engine braking and the 200 has none.
Im 6" 200lbs with out gear. The 200 seams sitff on the front. Havent got to play with the clickers yet. The bars are wide and low, and the pegs are high, the seat is softer and the clutch is hard to pull..I cant find the kick starter very fast, my foot misses it on the first kick with out looking..
I only have about 4 hours on the 200 and near 200 plus on the 450.
The vibs from the smoker are the biggest thing I cant get used too...
I will not do a Rekluse on the 200 even though I stall I stall it alot while braking going into turns...
Im thinking about trading for a 250 thumper...
Just my thoughts on the 200
Matt

I like the challenge the 200 provides. It keeps me engaged at all times.

If you are 6'+, I recommend a tall seat, makes a big difference. They can be had on ktmtalk used for usually less than $70. I haven't gotten risers yet, but know they will help me when standing. They're on my list. The tall seat will likely help ya find the kicker as well.

Suspension: If you are running stock springs, you probably are riding too far in the stroke. The XC definitely has stiffer valving, but with correct springs, it will hold you up in the softer part of the stroke better. Your shock is likely causing the forks to feel harsh as well if it is also not sprung for your weight.

Get it set up and give it a chance.
