Is this normal wear for a stock sx150 piston with about 150hrs on it?

it looks pretty bad but a high reving small bore 2stroke should never be let to get to 150 hours on it before replacing. It shouldn't have been allowed to go half that time.... does the cylinder still look good?

Depends. Is the top ring really missing?

My 144 has 175 hours on it and is still running strong. I try to change pistons and rings around every 50 hours. My pistons usually have a few small scratches on the skirt, usually on the exhaust side, like yours seems to have. However, I rarely see dark spots (blow by) below the top ring, and never below the bottom ring.

How often do you change your piston and rings? The KTM manual says every 40 hours, I think.

I'm running a Woosner Piston kit now, which is less expensive then stock.

Hope this helps.

I've seen pistons out of 144 race bikes that looked that bad after 15 hours..has it really done 150hours?
