Got Jeff Slavens high altitude needle in today and all i can say is WOW!!!

I live @ 5K and ride from there up to 10K. Ive always had issues with the bottom 1/8 to 1/4 being a little blubery. Since i ride most of the time in this throttle position, it just drove me nuts.

Ive tried several different combinations to rid myself of the low end fat spot to no avail. When i did get it to go away, it would jack the rest of my jetting.

So, i bought and installed Jeff's needle today and it made a huge difference.... You crack the throttle now and it is no problem lifting the tire over and obsticle. Needless to say, i am impressed and i just wanted to share this with the community.

I am sure you can use some other needle or combination to get the same results, but i took the easy route.... Jeff is really knowledgable when it comes to the 300 and the 20 bucks for the needle was definately worth it.

Jeff is a Guru on 2 strokes. IMHO he is #1 300 tuner!

I don't see it on his site. What is it? Is it specifically tuned for the big bikes? Is it something like the JD needles?

I found the CCK with a #8 slide worked extremely well @ the 8 to 13k altitude at Taylor Park in my 300xcw. This solved the low end blubbering I was experiencing.

I'm also curious about Jeff's needle. I'll have to ask him when I'm at Taylor in August. Hopefully he'll come out for a day.

The needle is not listed on his site. Give him a call for the details.... I called him up for some help for higher alt. ride i was doing and he suggested this needle and it works perfectly.

I dont think what i am running would do you much good. I'm running Jeff's mule port and i am running leaner jetting than before.

Here, at around 5600 ft and temps in the high 80's, i like running a 150 main jet with N2ZW #3 and a 40 pilot jet. This gives a clean torquey pull from off idle to 1/4 and still lets the bike rev out. It's not recommended for high speed runs or sand.... 2 stroke jetting always seems to be a trade off.

Edit:

Digging through my notes, before the motor mods, it seems that N2ZW #1 with a 160 was a favorite. I always perfered slower reving hard pulling jetting so you may or may not like these settings.
