I've heard KTM Hardparts pipes are a good overall performance increase.

Moose... don't hold me to the fire for this statement.... but I seem to recall reading somewhere about how smoker pipes work and their ability to scavenge or otherwise pull spent exhaust gasses from the cylinder after ignition. Long and short of it was the fatter the pipe is closer to the exhaust port the more efficient it is for low end power and the farther you moved that expansion away the more top end efficiency you will gain. That is a very short version of what I read (probably after many beers and hours of thread cruising). All that said. I just bought a clapped out old 200 EXC. It had an FMF Gnarly pipe on it and it was all bashed up so I decided a new pipe was in order so I ordered up a Pro Circuit Platinum 2 for it. There is definitely a difference in the diameter and distances from exhaust port to full expansion. I can't personally give you an educated comparison because I rode it around the block twice before I pulled it apart with the gnarly on it and I just got it back together with the PC pipe in it... but from what I gather the Pro Circuit is a little more of a mid-top end pipe.
Maybe someone here can add some validity to my theory......:ride:
