I'm trying to decide which direction to go on my gearing. I know stock gearing is 14/52 but when I bought the bike it has 13/51. Right now the gearing is jut too low for me so I'm debating to do 13/49 or 13/50 but I just can't decide. I wanted to see what other people are running on their 300's. I do only woods riding on single track & atv trails, alot of brush busting, and an occasional enduro. The reason I'm staying with a 13 front is because it is brand new so I'm only going to swap out the back and also have concerns if I went to say 14/53 or 14/54 my chain may be too short.

I have a 09 300xc, for tight trails i use 13/52 for racing or more open i use 14/52. Very easy to change counter shaft .

I run 13/52 on my 1997 300 exc. I ride a lot of single track, so I like
my first gear really low. Adding one tooth to the counter shaft sprocket
will make a big difference. Thats the way I would go and it's cheaper.

I just installed a 13/50 combo on my 02 250EXC. The 14 was just tall for what I want.

i run the 14/52 with 19 tire on my 300MXC 03

i ride trails, sand, through random sagebrush, making my own trail, tight single track with logs/other obstacles..

1st is low enough why would u need it any lower..

most single track im in 1-2-3 but mainly 2, lug/clutch work right into the pipe

clutch is yo friend

This is the kind of riding I do as well, but why do you run a 19" rear?

And thanks for the feedback everyone.

On my 06 400 I changed from a 14/52 to a 13/50 and the original chain worked fine. I also ride an 01 300 and currently have the 14/52 stup. I am going to change the counter to a 13 to give me a little more ummph in 3rd gear..I'm gonna get a new chain because I want a new one, not because of the gearing change...Hmm, I should prolly get a 51 rear as well........

I'm currently running 13/51 now but it is just to low for me, 1st is useless and 2nd winds out too quick. I rode my friends 00' 300 with 14/52 yesterday and 1st was missing a little bit of lug so I think I'm going to go 14/53 and see how it does. Thanks for the input everyone.
