I have a 98 YZ400F, I bought a seat cover and it doesnt fit.....the seller then tells me that the seat cover doesnt fit YZ only YZF, what is the difference, thought they were the same thing.

You don't have a YZ400. You have a YZ400F. If the seat fits only YZF's and not YZ's, what is his problem? Or did you state that in reverse?

No, the YFZ450 is a quad. There is no YZF450, and there are indeed sport bike models ID'd as "YZF"
