Have you guys tried different gearing on your '03 250F's?

I ride MX only. Right now I'm in 2nd and 3rd gear almost everywhere on the tracks. Very occasional bump up to 4th. And in 3rd I feel like I have enough power/rev to do almost anything. So I'm thinking of trying a 49 or 50 rear because I wouldn't mind a little quicker acceleration out of the turns.

What have you guys tried/liked? BTW, I'm running stock exhaust (have heard great things about the DR D though).

I believe the most popular is a 50 tooth rear. I went up to a 51 this year when I got my 03 & made 1st gear too low. So I went to the proven 50 which seems perfect for me.

Nikki,
I just put on a 50 last night. Although I have only ridden the stock 48 once, I thought it pulled like a tank with tons of top end (compared to my YZ125). I'm afraid the 50 will limit the top end, but it probably depends on the MX track. When the weather breaks, I will let you know how they compare. Many people here are using the 50.

I am using stock 48 right now and i feel that the 50 adds to much bottom. Is there such a thing as a 49?

The tracks around here are mostly wide oepen with the jumps spaced far aprt. Then you get to the other parts of the track and it is all very tight and the corners are sharp. So the 50 is to short and teh 48 is too tall.

Yep, there is such a thing as a 49 tooth rear. I just got my 50 tooth and put it on today as a matter of fact. I could really use another link in my chain, but the stock chain does fit. For the tight tracks, the 50 tooth is "the poop". When I run Motorhead Park, I will go back to my 48 tooth for higher speeds on the straights. Got my sprocket from http://www.rockymountainmc.com. I also got a 110/90/19 Maxxis MaxxCross IT. Love the looks. It is too damn cold to ride though.

I got some more goodies too. I got a front disc cover, some heavy duty toobs, and a motion pro clutch lever, all from Rocky Mountain. Next is a proMoto Billet exhaust cap w/spark arrestor. :)

Nikki go with a 49T, it's the perfect compromise. Mine pulls a little better off bottom and still has great top.

Thanks everyone! I think I have a 49 on my 125 right now, so I'll just swap em and give the 49 a try. I'm not really unhappy with the stock 48 - just think it could be a little better. So maybe the 49 is the ticket for me.
