My first two questions always are: 1.What is your weight. 2.What is your riding ability. Example: 200lb. expert-you want the 450. 165lb novice-you want the 250. Also, if you are going to use it for general purpose off-road riding (not MX) the 450 has a 4-speed transmission that is not very versatile.

5 10 buck sixty certinly not pro but decent, ride dunes about 70% and track and Dessert type the rest of time, I dont know anybody with the YZ250f who rides in the sand i rode own on dirt and loved it, but not sure if it will make the sand. I am buying one of the two in a month and haven't completly made my mind up.

I recently rode both a 2003 250f and 450f and both bikes were awesome. Both had their positives and negatives but I really enjoyed myself more on the 250f. I didn't seem to get as tired on the 250f and it was generally alot more enjoyable to ride for longer periods.

Any choice between the 2 bikes is a good one!

Tough situation. Your weight and ability level tells me 250 but 70% sand? I would have to agree with Gallo on the 450. Sand dunes burn up a lot of power and I think you will be beating up the 250 in the sand.
