On my 06 450f the clutch lever has alot of up and down play in it. I have been taking the screw out evrey now and then to clean the cable and inside the perch.

The last time I took it off I noticed it was getting harder to thread on and off.
The threads on the screw looked to be getting stripped. Now I cant tighten it up to stop the lever from shaking up and down and flopping around when on the track.

Are there any methods that will work to solve this problem? If I take it off Iam afraid it will be the last time. I need to tighten it but it want any more.

Would a regular screw work? The stock screw is non threaded at the top part and only has threads from about the middle on down.

I would buy a new screw from yamaha for a buck. The lever is supposed to have up and down movement, on all bikes with cable operated clutches. DO NOT try to tighten this bolt too much because I have seen tons of people snap the head off the bolt trying to stop the rattle and movement. Then you will have to extract it, or maybe even buy a new perch because it could rip the threads out. You may have already tore the threads out of the perch though so, a new one may be on the parts list.
Hope this helps

I forgot to mention I had a F3 ASV lever and universial perch. Anyways I called ASV and they are going to send me a spring for the lever (it works the lever forward and then brings it back) and the bolt and nut that holds the lever to the perch.

They were real nice and coropertive and said it wouldnt cost a thing.

The threads on perch were ok it was just the threads on the bolt that were hurt.
