Is there supposed to be oil on the stator coil inside the flywheel? I taken off the crankcase cover and a lot of oil came out.

First time I was a picture of that area and saw oil I wondered what was going on as well. A wet stator just seems odd. I suppose a dry clutch would be the same type of thing too.

I suppose a dry clutch would be the same type of thing too.

Almost every British Bike made from before 1950 up through at least 1974 had a dry clutch. There was oil in the primary case, but that was for the primary chain, not the clutch. The clutches were oil tolerant, but if you got them too wet, they'd slip.

The CZ two-strokes were the seriously odd ones. The clutch had steel driven plates and Bronze drive plates, and was totally, out-in-the-air dry, under its own cover with a seal behind it. Great clutch, too.

But, yes, the stators on YZF's are wet. The cavity they live in is open to the crankcase and sump.
